About Your Retina Surgeon in Maine
Dr. Curt Tyler Young is a retina surgeon in Maine and the President and Medical Director of Vision Care of Maine. He grew up in Presque Isle and continues to serve many of his longtime friends and neighbors.
Dr. Young began his career in medicine as a Registered Nurse. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from Syracuse University and became the youngest male to graduate from Syracuse as a licensed Nurse Practitioner. His nursing experience in ophthalmology surgery centers gave him a personal understanding of how important a well-trained operating room team really is.
He went on to earn his medical degree from St. Christopher’s College of Medicine in Cambridge, England in 2002. He completed elective rotations in Ophthalmology at Tulane University and Louisiana State University in New Orleans, where he also completed his Internship in Internal Medicine.
After Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Young returned to New Orleans to help rebuild Tulane’s Ophthalmology program. Following his residency, he accepted a Retina Fellowship at Tulane under the world-renowned Dr. James Diamond. He later had the honor of performing Dr. Diamond’s own cataract surgery here at Vision Care of Maine.
Dr. Young returned home to Maine as Chief of Retina Surgery, working alongside his father, Dr. Craig W. Young. Following his father’s passing in 2013, Dr. Young took on the leadership role of President and Medical Director. He continues his father’s commitment to delivering the best medical and surgical eye care available to the people of Northern Maine.
Dr. Young is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
